ZERO TOLERANCE
Greenbush Soccer Club
US Soccer, the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), and the Capital District Youth Soccer League (CDYSL) have implemented a Zero Tolerance Policy aimed at preventing abuse at all levels of youth soccer in the United States. Greenbush Soccer Club (GSC) fully supports this goal and the policy that has been crafted in support of this goal.
This zero tolerance policy applies to every member of the Greenbush Soccer Club (GSC) community from our board to our staff to our players to our families. While the policy is quite long and detailed, it can be summarized quite easily:
Abusive or derogatory language or conduct deemed detrimental to the game will not be tolerated.
Violations of the policy will result in immediate suspensions from ENYYSA and US Soccer, which can range anywhere from 2 games to a lifetime ban depending on the severity of misconduct, whether the misconduct is part of a larger pattern of misconduct, and whether it is directed at a minor.
Violations of the policy will also result in immediate financial penalties levied by CDYSL, which can range anywhere from $1000 for a first-time offense to $3000 or more for repeated misconduct or misconduct directed at a minor, and may also result in additional suspensions imposed by CDYSL.
At the discretion of the board of GSC, particularly severe cases of misconduct or repeated misconduct may also result in additional suspension or even expulsion from GSC.
As articulated in our guiding values and philosophy – character, commitment, community – all of us should at all times be committed to providing our players with a positive and supportive environment in which to challenge themselves and develop as players and teammates.
US Soccer has updated its Referee Abuse Prevention Policy (Policy 531-9) which is designed to make youth and amateur matches more safe, more fun, and more empowering for everyone involved. The updated policy is to protect referees and restore respect to the game. The updated policy includes stronger sanctions for any form of physical or or non-physical abuse towards referees.
ENY and CDYSL has implemented a Zero Tolerance Policy to ensure that all games are played in a safe, sporting manner and provide an appropriate environment for our youth soccer players.
